I'm happy the 35mm is not a S line. There is so much you can do with a lens and a S line would have been bigger, heavier and more expensive.

Believe me Nikon will bring an AF-Update to make it even better - like in every Nikon Camera since the Z6 :D - I struggle this time a bit more with the 24Mp, the not that good Dynamic-Range and the high price in Europe - that's not that much away from the Z8.

The Nikon 35mm f/1.4 needs a SE edition. Also Ricci Talks confirmed this isn't the 35mm on the roadmap, so we are still due the S-line version.

A cheap first party f/1.4, I am not complaining. But then again, during the days of their F-Mount lineup, both 1.8 and 1.4 weren't exactly expensive compared to Canon EF. If they manage to put a cheap trio of 35, 50 and 85mm f1.4 for similar pricing, it will be an instant hit.

It’d be insane if Canon started limiting 3rd party lenses drive speed. Especially since my adapted 3rd party lenses can shoot 40fps perfectly fine.

sry but in my opinion there are no interessting lenses in the nikon lineup. where are the lenses they told they need a mount switch for? like canon is doing with the f2 28-70 or the 24-205 2.8 ect... yes the nikon glas is sharp and all.. but arent all lenses sharp and stuff in that pricerange? please someone explain..

Having worked for a 'Big Company' I can confirm that any 'Road Map' is only valid the minute it is released. The very next day, week and/or month - everything can and will change and no one will ever go back to fix the road map. Just the way it is.

35mm f/1.4 is probably the worst lens they got. Its neither sharp nor does it have good contrast except for in the middle. The f/1.8 literally runs circles around it in quality. Yes its more expensive, but for a 100 bucks you get an infinitely better lens. It makes Zero sense. instead of pushing cheaper f/1.8 lenses from the beginning and then give us better 1.4 glas and exceptional 1.2 glas, we as consumers are getting f-ed twice. Neither are we getting what we asked for nor reasonable prices. its insane

I don't care if it's a cheap 35 1.4. Finally I can sell my 35 1.4 f mount and I have a native one. will it be perfect? I don't think so. But for environmental portraits it will be super nice.

I love cheap 1.4 lenses, they don't need to be anything special, just solid. This could be a great thing if Nikon releases some cheap but powerful lenses. That's theway to get more people to the system.

Awesome vids Jared! I wanted to ask you a question as I am looking for my first full frame digital camera. I have a Cannon 90D now but would like to venture in to full frame. I love o shoot RAW on fast moving subjects like sports air shows etc. but also low light such as lighting, city lights, moon, stars, astrophotography, and low light sporting events. Could you give me your recommendation if money is no object and a budgeted option of around $3,000 or less? Should I wait until Cannon's new cameras are all out? Thanks BC

I think Nikon may be getting ahead of Viltrox’s announced 1.4 primes they are developing for Z mount..

I believe we will see Nikon release a series of 1.4 Primes but the pricing and positioning in the lineup is weird. But still, great to have choices.

That's a very good price point for the 35mm 1.4. Very competitive compared to Sony and Canon.

It's great to see Nikon producing a budget friendly 35mm f1.4, but this is really long overdue and should have become standard across the market by now. In the past 35mm lenses were optically complex because the lens is shorter than the flange distance of SLR cameras, forcing lenses wider than 40mm to use a "retrofocusing" design. Now that we're on short flange mirrorless systems that is no longer the case, meaning every lens longer than 20mm should be dramatically less expensive on mirrorless than it is on SLR... but looking at the market today do we have a "Nifty 24f1.8" on every system? Nope. Camera companies are holding out on us.

I wonder if that 35 f1.4 was another one of those not-nikon lenses by tamron....

35mm is the most versatile lens because of the non-distort look, wide enough in most situations and 1.4 3d-pop. Just wish they would push it to f1.2 or even 1.0 to get some new and fresh feeling. ♥️

Some of the other YooToobers who have handled the 35/1.4 lens seem to think it's a great feeling and performing lens.
